Director of Golf and Instruction
Don became a PGA golf professional in 1985 after having played for 2 years in Europe and Asia. In 1988 he realized as a PGA club professional he truly loved the teaching side of the business and began learning to teach the game from the late legendary teaching professional John Jacobs. For close to 10 years he taught for Jacobs's golf under the direction of world famous PGA Professionals Shelby Futch, Donald Grawley and Craig Bunker. He then spent 5 years as the northeast regional manager of the Slazenger Golf Club division. At that time Slazenger was totally committed to custom fitting where Don perfected his fitting skills. In 2001 he opened the Keen Golf Academy and also taught as an adjunct professor for Lamar University Golf program. He taught at Beaumont until coming here in April of 2017. The simple approach to teaching the game of golf that he learned from his mentors is how he still teaches the game. His philosophy is simply that a student should hit better shots during the lesson and not feel they have to practice for months to achieve success. Ultimately his goal is to bring world class golf instruction to the members and guests of Rancho Viejo Resort & Country Club.
